Pit Bulls, threat or Pet, I believe pet?

This is from my personal experience... my father owns a female pit and she wouldn't hurt a fly. I think it's all in how you raise your dog. He plays with her frequently, but DOES NOT rough house with her. He also takes her on car rides, neighborhood walks, camping trips, etc. I have seen her with other dogs, cats, adults, and children.. she is too sweet. But I have seen some that weren't so sweet. I think it all goes back to the owner.
