Why doesn't my paper airplane idea work?

They are two separate units, whether you start them off together or not, and if you give the initial impulse to the dart, then there is nothing to transmit the impulse to the glider, if they are not physically fixed together. Then the airflow over the dart simply lifts the glider off the dart, and glider falls to the ground because it did not receive any forward impulse.
